Chile: a success story
In accordance with its mission to eliminate traffic collision casualties in Latin America, and with special attention to child traffic safety, the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation started to prepare a plan of action in Chile in 2012. In conjunction with the National Commission on Transit Safety (CONASET according to its initials in Spanish), they held meetings to outline a strategy focused on child traffic safety in Chile that included a training of traffic police about the importance of the use of Child Restraint Systems ((CRS) more commonly known as car seats). They also planned three Car Seat Checkpoints in different shopping centers in Santiago where Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation technicians and traffic police offered practical advice about safe child transport to those who visited the Checkpoints.

Safe School Environments Program
The program Latin American Safe Children in Transit is an important part of the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation's work that concentrates on protecting children en route to school. The program addresses the issue of traffic safety for youth in many different ways including legislation and enforcement, education in schools, prevention, policies emphasizing safe vehicles and safe vehicle usage, and safe infrastructure. A key part of this larger program is the Safe School Environment program.

Developing road safety knowledge
Over the past few months, the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation has continued to work to improve road safety, bringing together global experts and Uruguayan professionals to share best practices and bring knowledge to the country.

Toyota pays homage to Gonzalo Rodriguez
On October 6th, 2019, in the Autodrome in Pinar, Toyota hosted an event paying homage to Gonzalo ‘Gonchi' Rodriguez for the 20th anniversary of his passing.

Launch of the Argentine subsidiary of the Gonzalo Rodríguez Foundation
In an event organized at the Uruguayan Residence in Argentina, the Argentinean branch of the Gonzalo Rodriguez Foundation (FGR) was launched, a Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organization created in Uruguay in 2000 in memory of the Uruguayan driver Gonzalo "Gonchi" Rodriguez who died on the "Laguna Seca" track in the United States.
